Monetary policy works through a transmission mechanism where changes in the policy rate ripple through financial and real markets to affect the overall demand for goods and services. Saying that policy rate changes have no effect on aggregate demand ignores these links, so it isn’t consistent with how monetary policy actually transmits to the real economy.
